The project involved review of detailed engineering design and construction supervision of a steel cable reinforced bridge in province of Cebu which is at about 1 kilometer north of the existing Mactan Bridge with length of about 320 meters, an approach viaduct at Mandaue side with a length about 490 meters, and about 350 meters at Mactan side. It has an access road about 1,000 mters at Mandaue side.
The bridge will serve as the international gateway via the Mactan International Airport, Mactan Export Processing Zone (MEPZ), and the numerous beach resort facilities of international standards. With the constraints of urban expansion in the main island, the role of Mactan Island becomes increasingly important for the sound development of Metro Cebu. With the present transportation system, however, both islands rely solely on the existing bridge. With the expected growth of socio-economic activities and the continuous growth of traffic demand in the area, the capacities of the bridge and the access roads around it will be saturated in the near future without the project.
